A Story shaped by global Heritage

The Ambassador Hotel Zurich found its origins in the grand “Utoschloss” building, constructed in 1899 by visionary real estate developer Jakob Lassmann.

Initially designed as an opulent residence in Zurich's prestigious Seefeld district, the city palace in the neo-baroque style quickly became a symbol of the elegance and prosperity of the Belle Époque era.

The distinctive Utoschloss with its ’Jugendstil‘ elements became a local landmark, idyllically situated on the shores of Lake Zurich.

The pioneering Women of the Ambassador

The history of the Ambassador Hotel is shaped by three strong, courageous women.

Emma Zschokke-Beckel laid its foundations in 1920 by transforming the Utoschloss into a hospitality venue.

From 1930 to 1960, Viktoria Ziegler-Ott ran several guest houses, providing refuge for Jewish emigrants and earning the nickname “Emigrant Mother.”

Her daughter Martha Hoppeler-Ziegler later had the building renovated and in 1963 reopened their new elegant hotel under the name of “Ambassador”. This paved the way fo many city and business hotels that sprang up in Zurich with the expansion of the airport.

The Ambassador Today

In 2023, after nearly three years of extensive renovations, the Ambassador Hotel Zurich reopened its doors, embracing a new era of luxury and elegance. The modern design seamlessly integrates with the building's historical charm, paying homage to Zurich's silk trade heritage.

Each floor is dedicated to one of the city's historic silk trading partners, including Britain, Spain, the Americas, France, Asia, and India. This concept honors the international relationships that fueled Zurich's prosperity and cultural landscape.

Today, the hotel offers a unique blend of historical significance and contemporary sophistication, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both comfort and a touch of history in the heart of Zurich.
